Visitors flocked in numbers on Friday, the second day of the 17th edition of the National Furniture Fair, which returned after a two-year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic.

After Thursday’s boring first day, people started arriving from Friday afternoon, booth owners said at the world’s largest furniture show, with 34 furniture makers including Hatil, Akhtar Furnishers, Navana, Partex, Regal, Nadia and Brothers, all under one roof at Bashundhara International Convention City.

Furniture stall vendors say most people are interested in bedroom furniture other than sofas and dining tables.

Some brands present their range of products on giant screens because it is not possible to present the entire range of products on the stands of the show.

Furniture manufacturers lure customers with discounts ranging from 5% to 25%, while several companies offer free door-to-door delivery in Dhaka.

Israt Jahan, a visitor to the fair, told The Business Standard: “We can go to our nearby showrooms and buy furniture, but at the fair we see products from so many brands in one place. It is easier to choose the best furniture at the fair.”

Aqib Khan, who came to the fair with his family, said: “The purpose of the fair is to enjoy an outing with the whole family. In addition, we also bought furniture.

Shabab Bin Jahangir, Marketing Manager at Bohu Furniture, said, “Although the number of visitors increased today (Friday), we are not seeing as many sales. Most people are window shopping. Hopefully sales will be good the last two days of the fair.”

He also said they were offering up to 25% off exclusively for purchases at the fair.

Regal Furniture is offering a flat 10% discount on the show. They also offer EMI facilities for purchases made with cards from a number of banks.

Maruf Hasan, Deputy Director of Regal Furniture, told The Business Standard: “Buyers are more interested in bedroom sets and dining room sets than this show.”

Md Sakhawat Hossain, Senior Manager (Marketing) of Hatil Furniture, said, “We are getting a good response this year as the show is taking place after a two-year hiatus.

Hatil offers up to 5% to 10% reduction during the show.

Md Shaheen Sheikh, Director of Brothers Furniture, said they are offering up to 15% off and cashback of Tk 1,000 on payments of Tk 10,000 via bKash.

Md Tarek Aziz, Sales Manager of Akhtar Furnishers, said, “Our delivery to Dhaka is free and there is a 12% discount.

He hoped sales would pick up by the end of the fair.

Samiul Basir, sales manager of Hi-Tech Lifestyle & Furniture, said it is offering 0% interest EMI facility for up to 12 months on about 20 bank cards.

Tapan Kumar, regional manager of Champion Group, a company that sells foam, mattresses and pillows, said his goal is not just to sell but to showcase his products to visitors.

“We try to establish a relationship with buyers. We have about 250 dealers across the country. We also supply products to various companies,” he said.

The President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), Md Jashim Uddin, on Thursday inaugurated the 5-day fair at International Convention City Bashundhara in the capital.

The 34 furniture manufacturers are displaying their products at 182 booths at the show, organized by the Bangladesh Furniture Industry Owners Association.
